Head, Heart, Hustle
and I do not believe that our current state government understands or reflects that. From emergency management to water shutoffs to school closures to tax foreclosure, state leaders have made money their bottom line rather than people. My name is Michele and I am asking for the opportunity to represent Michigan’s 4th District as a State Representative because I want to create policies that recognize the value of people in general, and in my community in particular.
I view public office as an act of service and I have prepared for this role with two decades of consistent volunteerism. Professionally, I have worked as an engineer, an environmentalist, and a writer. I am currently the coordinator of the Tax Foreclosure Prevention Project with United Community Housing Coalition, where I work daily to preserve home ownership in Detroit and bring justice to the ongoing housing crisis. I care deeply about my work and I am grateful for the chance to positively impact people’s lives, but, it is not enough to be a hard worker in a broken system; we need to change the rules of the game.
Please consider this an open call to community groups to teach me about your ongoing work and to individuals to share the issues that you hold dear. Let’s create solutions together.
